The first thing that struck me while watching Lake Street Drive on stage at the Roundhouse was the finite control they purvey. The effortlessness in every moment of their concert was astounding, that is no easy feat and has come from some 20 years of world travels and thousands of gigs. You do get the impression that Lake Street Dive could sing the proverbial "phonebook" and make it catchy and sassy.

The eighth album released last year, Good Together was the basis for a lot of the songs on The Roundhouse setlist. Starting with the single "Good Together" they were immediately into the pop / soul groove they have forged, this formula making them popular with all ages as could be seen from a really young demographic, who clearly relished singing a heap of the vocals.

What makes this band stand out in 2025 could be simply the good time vibe they bring to their party but also the quality of the musicianship each member has, combining with spectacular precision and sound. Take Akie Bermiss on keys who just adds a sprinkling of Jazz tone to compositions plus as with all the team the he has the vocals to blend or upfront as in the cover of Shania Twain's "You're Still The One". James Cornelison provides mostly rhythm guitar but was occasionally released to solo and show his amazing talents.

"Hypotheticals" was particularly popular on the night, being one of the staples of their set but was maybe usurped by "Party On The Roof" which was played soon after. This led on to the band surrounding a microphone Fifties style to play The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back", "Side Pony" and "Help Is On The Way".

The song "Twenty-Five" was striking first as a fantastic song and with just Rachael Price long with guitar it was a stark contrast to the other numbers on the night. Also as she stated on the night it had personal reflection for her. Bridget kearney wrote this song to go alongside her award winning Bass playing skills on either electric or double bass.

The encore was saved for "Good Kisser" again a rousing people pleaser of a song to send everyone singing as they ventured out towards the Tube.
