Interpol play Antics in Wolverhampton

The 20th Anniversary of their second blockbuster

Artist - Interpol

Venue - Civic Hall

Town -  Wolverhampton UK

Date - 1st November 2024

Antics was the sophomore release for Interpol back in 2004 so here we were with 20 years gone by in a flash. Along with Turn On The Bright Lights, arguably these are their two most influential albums produced  at a time when New York shone brightly for the cool, guitar driven rock that was oozing out of every backstreet venue in Manhattan.

There were changes to the line up that produced Antics, Carlos Dengler on bass departed many years ago, though his replacement, Brad Truax has filled the space honourably. They were tough shoes to fill as Carlos was an endearing character liked considerably by Interpol’s early fanbase.

The evening’s main event begins with “Next Exit” and continues through the album following the original track listing, all are highlights but the biggest response was reserved for the singles released at the time “Slow Hands” and the immense “Evil”. They really were at the top of their creative curve while writing Antics as “Not Even Jail” showed with its juggernaut powered beat relentlessly driving forwards to it's end.

With a break to freshen up after completing their second masterpiece in full, Interpol returned to run through songs from all their albums except interestingly their last.

“Obstacle 1” has been a staple since their early career on tour. It still makes me smile… along with “Lights” and “PDA” the band cranked out the numbers to the rapturous audience as the mosh pit swirled along.
